A Corella tunicate: The oral siphon is at the extreme right
and is directed downward. Water is drawn in here and passes through the brachial basket
into the almost transparent bulge at the top-right, to escape through the exit
siphon near the right edge of the frame. The point of attachment is at the extreme left,
and the large white mass with two yellow lobes just to the right is the stomach,
intestine, and gonads. The bright white streak passing up from this mass and then
to the right is the sperm duct. After staining with neutral red: Now the brachial basket, with its
rectilinear structure, can be more easily seen. It has a complex structure that can't be
appreciated at this magnification. Eggs are typically become fertilized in the bulge of the
exit siphon, and develop there for a few days before swimming out into the water.
